Welcome to the official site of the Toronto International DV Festival 2000.

Our mission is to promote, screen and possibly distribute up and coming Digital Video (DV) filmmakers and their work from across the globe.

It is a well-known fact that DV is quickly becoming the new medium for independent filmmakers of the new millennium. More and more, we are seeing the independents of the film community shed the overpriced (and often limiting) veil of shooting on film and moving to the versatile, inexpensive and unlimited virtues of shooting in DV.

Sweeping across Europe, DV has become the media of choice for many leading filmmakers and a multitude of upcoming ones. After many years where it seems like almost everything that hits the screen uses shooting locations, quick action, and intense effects to make the viewer more forgiving for a lack of any coherent or interesting plot, DV demands that the filmmaker concentrate less on packaging and more on product. It challenges the filmmaker to capture the audience through the film and not through the gloss.

With DV filmmaking as an affordable solution to the masses, it allows anyone with a good idea to see it to fruition by bypassing the tedious and often all too long process of getting funding for such projects. In short, it empowers those who are not part of the elite to have their day in the sun. This festival was conceived for this reason.

The Toronto International DV Festival 2000 will be one of the first venues, in the city of Toronto, to showcase your vision as it was meant to be seen: in a theatre, with the roar of a truly world class and film savvy audience. The city boasts many festivals such as the Toronto International Film Festival (considered the 2nd most important film festival in the world after Cannes), the Toronto International Short Film Festival, the "On the Fly" festival, The Toronto Jewish Film Festival, and the Toronto Fringe Festival to name a few. The Toronto International DV Festival however, is the first festival in the city exclusive to the promotion of DV as the medium for a new millennium of filmmakers.

We at the Toronto International DV Festival look forward to introducing many of you to this new medium and sharing the best of what it has to offer both with those new to the medium and those that have been actively involved in it already.
